Mackie's Slip Inc.

Good Water Makes Good Slip

Important Updates!!! June 20, 2022

+++Effective immediately: Price increase increase of $0.10 per box. This affects all orders. Due to consistent rising cost of production, we have to raise prices to cover these increases. Please see the password protected page under wholesale pricing for current prices.

**We are getting our samples of the new talc this week, and will start the reformulation process.

++We are experiencing supply chain issues.

****We are at the end of our Texas Talc. We are not able to take new customers at this time.

++I am still working on orders for those of you that were able to get in an order of our Texas Talc formula. We are experiencing supply chain issues.

**We have learned of another talc source that may be a better fit for our slip and give us a slight off white bisque. We are going to pursue acquiring Cimbar Talc soon and begin tests. The Silverline from Montana is just not giving us a consistent, high quality product that we had hoped for.

***We will be shutting down slip production to reformulate our slip. I had hoped that we would not have to do this, and it would be a smooth transition. Unfortunately, this is our reality.

**We will be open for Alligator and Laguna clay sales and Miller Dover stoneware slip sales this summer.

++MACKIE'S SLIP production will be shut down June through August as of right now. I apologize for the inconvenience. If you find yourself with out slip this summer, call and I will do my best to help you. ++

**During our tests I will also be testing talc-free slip as well. I want to know the exactly how it pours and fires. Hopefully, I will have some knowledge of its characteristics.

Thanks for visiting Mackie's Slip, Inc.!

Mackie's Slip in Seminary, Mississippi has been the South's superior earthenware (ceramic) slip since 1968. Mackie Newton created his own formula to produce the best slip around. His secret is printed on every box, "Good Water Makes Good Slip". His son, Heber Newton, now ensures that the quality of the slip stays consistent.

Mackie's Slip has minimal shrinkage and an extremely good greenware strength. Our slip complies with ASTM-D4236, rated NONTOXIC, and is fully compatible with the nontoxic low-fire glazes available from Amaco, Duncan, Gare, Laguna and Spectrum.

When properly fired to Cone 04 maturity, the slip is nearly pure white. Only fire the slip from Cone 04 to Cone 06 to ensure compatibility with all major brands of glaze and underglazes.

Our slip is packaged in 2-gallon boxes, premixed and ready for casting. A single 2 gallon box of slip weighs approximately 30 lbs. A full pallet of Mackie's Slip is 80 boxes (160 gallons), and weighs 2450 pounds including the weight of the pallet.

We are also a leading distributor of Alligator Clay and Laguna Clay.
